Deaths of 3 Atomic Energy officials: Bus owner, driver not yet identified

Police are yet to identify the owner and driver of the Safe Line Paribahan bus – involved in an accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Savar yesterday (June 5, 2022), which killed four people, including three officials of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission.

A case has been already filed against the unidentified driver over the accident, Savar Highway Police Station Inspector Golam Mostafa, also the investigating officer of the case told our local correspondent.

"As far as I know, the bus was coming to Dhaka with passengers from Kushtia. About the owner's identity, bus route permit and fitness could not be known. Efforts are being made to find out these information," said the inspector.

Jahangir Alam, former manager of the Gabtoli counter of Safe Line Transport, told this correspondent that two buses, including the bus that met with the accident, were plying on the Dhaka-Benapole route.

"A man named Iqbal Hossain gave us the bus. On May 26, we closed our counter as vehicle's fitness documents were not good and the business was not going on well," he said.

Recently, the bus was plying on Kushtia-Gabtoli route on the banner of Green Express. The bus was coming to Dhaka with passengers from Kushtia on the day of the accident, said Jahangir.

The correspondent could not reach Iqbal Hossain over phone for his comments in this regard despite repeated calls. There was no response even after sending a SMS to his phone.

Yesterday, four staff of Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC), including three officials and a driver, were killed in a tragic road accident on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka.

At least 20 people, including 12 BAEC staff, were also injured in the incident.
