Ctg to get circuit bench of HC within this year: Law Minister

Law Minister Anisul Huq today said that a circuit bench of High Court division will be set up in Chattogram city within this year as the chief justice has taken it to his consideration.

"I am happy to share the news with you (the lawyers) that I have talked to the newly appointed chief justice about the installation of a circuit bench in Chattogram where the chief justice gives his consideration. Before the year runs out, we may see a circuit bench in the port city," said the minister.

The minister was addressing the lawyers' annual get together of Chattogram District Bar Association virtually as the chief guest. The daylong programme was held in the bar association auditorium of Chattogram court building.

Anisul Huq said the prime minister also wants a circuit bench in the port city. A formal announcement will be made soon in this regard.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel and Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Nur Taposh attended the programme virtually as special guests.

Judges of different courts including session, judicial and metropolitan magistrates also spoke at the programme, reports our Chattogram staff correspondent.
