Tamanna Jasmine Riva, president of Eden Mohila College unit of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), has allegedly tortured two students after confining them to a room for six and half hours.

Riva also allegedly threatened to record private footage of the two and upload them online if they did not confess to leaking an audio clip of her threatening other students.

The two resident students of Razia Begum dormitory said they were called to a room, confined and tormented from 11:00am to 5:30pm on August 23, following which, they were forced to give confessional statements.

The two students were later rescued by Provost Nargis Ruma, said campus sources.

One of the students said Riva would often force them to join political programmes. Even sickness would not be enough to spare them from participating, she alleged.

On one such occasion, when Riva was threatening other students to get them to join a BCL programme, she recorded audio of the abuses hurled at other students by Riva, to her dismay.

This correspondent tried to reach Riva over the phone but failed despite repeated attempts since Tuesday.

Contacted, Provost Nargis Ruma said she knew nothing of the incident and will try and find out the facts.

Principal Prof Supriya Bhattacharjee also denied occurrence of the incident. "I have no information of any such incident. We, along with the dorm authorities, will scrutinise how the false information has been circulated."
