Communal violence: 450 detained in 71 cases, say police

Around 450 persons have so far been detained in at least 71 cases filed over the violence and attack on temples and houses of the Hindu community in several districts of the country.

The number of the cases and detainees may increase as drives are on to nab those involved, said a press release sent by Police Headquarters tonight.

PHQ said police are taking action against those spreading rumour and misleading information on social media.

In order to destroy the existing communal harmony in the country, some individuals and groups have recently been deliberately trying to create an unstable situation by spreading rumours through social media, it added.

Different units of police are monitoring the rumour mongers and taking legal action against them, it said, urging all not to spread or believe unverified information.
