Communal attacks in Chowmuhani: Noakhali Jubo Dal president arrested

Police have arrested the president of Noakhali Jubo Dal, an associate body of BNP, from Rangamati in connection with the incidents of vandalism, murder and attacks on Hindu community during the Durga Puja celebrations at Chowmuhani in Noakhali's Begumganj upazila.

Manjurul Azim Sumon Prokash alias GS Sumon (50) was arrested by a team of Noakhali Detective Branch (DB) of police last night, Md Shahidul Islam, superintendent of police in Noakhali said at a press briefing today.

The arrest comes as Faisal Inam Komol (39), vice-president of Swechhasebak Dal in Noakhali, disclosed the name of Jubo Dal leader Sumon during his confessional statement before a magistrate under section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

In his statement on Monday, Komol mentioned Sumon's name as the instigator of the attack, said the SP.

Police arrested four other people from different areas in the last 24 hours over the communal attacks in Chowmuhani, he said.

All the five including the Jubo Dal leader will be produced before the district court tomorrow with remand prayers, added the SP.
