The circumstances around the death of Buet student Fardin Noor Parash are not yet certain and it cannot be said that he was killed while trying to buy drugs from Narayanganj's Chonpara, a top DB official said today.

"We are not saying right now that he was killed due to drug issues. We are also not saying that the prime accused in the case [victim's friend Bushra] has killed him," Mohammad Harun Or Rashid, additional commissioner of Detective Branch of DMP, told reporters.

"We are analysing different clues but we are yet to get anything concrete [including the motive of the murder]," he said replying to a query.

DB was tasked with investigating the murder on Thursday, hours after Fardin's father filed a case with Rampura Police Station.

Fardin's friend Amatullah Bushra and some unnamed persons were made accused. Bushra was arrested on November 10 and is now on a five-day remand. The DB chief said they are interrogating Bushra.

Earlier, a media outlet, citing anonymous sources in law enforcement, ran reports that Fardin was killed by drug peddlers as he went to Chonpara area of Narayanganj to buy drugs.

In today's briefing, Harun said the DB did not say anything like that and that there are other units of law enforcers.

Fardin's family and fellow students said Fardin was not addicted to drugs.

"We could not find out what actually happened [with Fardin]," Rashid said. "We hope we will soon unearth the mystery of the murder."

The body of Fardin, a third-year student of civil engineering at Buet, was recovered from the Shitalakkhya river at Banani Ghat in Narayanganj's Siddhirganj on November 7.

He went missing after he dropped Bushra in Rampura area on November 4.
