Man arrested from Chandpur for killing brother in Munshiganj

Police arrested a man this afternoon hours after a case was filed against him on charges of killing his elder brother over a family feud in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj last night.

Hridoy Sarkar (30) was arrested from Sujatpur Islambagh area of Matlab upazila in Chandpur around 4:30pm, said Md Rais Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Gazaria Police Station in Munshiganj.

During primary interrogation, Hridoy confessed to killing his elder brother Masum Sarker (35), the OC told our Munshiganj correspondent.

Early today, a case was filed in connection with the killing. The victim's wife Kakuli Begum filed the murder case with Gazaria Police Station, said OC Rais Uddin.

Deceased Masum Sarker was the elder son of Khalilur Rahman of Chhoto Basurchar village in Gazaria upazila.

OC Rais Uddin said Masum often used to argue with his younger brother Hridoy Sarker over their family business.

Around 8pm yesterday, Masum got into a fight with Hridoy at their home over the dispute.

At one stage, Hridoy attacked Masum and beat him up with a stick indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.  

Masum died on the way to hospital, said the police official.

On information, police recovered the body and sent it to Munshiganj General Hospital morgue for autopsy this morning.
