Case filed over beating traffic police sergeant by mob in Dhaka’s Jurain

A case was filed over beating a traffic police sergeant by a mob in Dhaka's Jurain area yesterday morning (June 7, 2022) following an altercation with commuters on a motorcycle.

Sergeant Ali Hossain, of Wari Traffic Division, filed the case naming three persons and 1,000 to 2,000 unnamed people with Shampur Police Station, Mofizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police facility told The Daily Star.

The accused are: Motorcyclist Shohag-Ul-Islam Roni, his wife Yasmin Jahan Nishat Bhuiyan, and Yasir Arafat Bhuiyan, said the OC. The trio was detained after the incident.

"Now they were shown arrested in connection with the case," he said, adding they will be produced before the court today (June 8, 2022).

Yesterday morning, traffic police sergeant Ali Hossain came under attack from a group of people in Dhaka's Jurain area following an altercation with commuters on a motorcycle. The video of the incident went viral on social media.

The incident took place around 9:30am when the sergeant stopped a motorcyclist – with a woman as pillion passenger – for going on the wrong side of the road.
