BCL men beat up college principal in Cumilla

A college principal was physically assaulted by some activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Cumilla's Chandina upazila today.

The victim, Monirul Islam Bhuiyan, principal of Chandina Redwan Degree Ahmed College, is now undergoing treatment at Chandina Upazila Health Complex, reports our Cumilla correspondent quoting the victim.

The incident occurred at the college campus this afternoon.

The injured Principal Monirul said the BCL leaders were taking out students from their classrooms to form a human chain in front of the college main gate.

"When I told them to return to their classes, Samirul Khandaker Robi, former organising secretary of upazila unit BCL, Kazi Jamil Redwan Ahmed, president of the college unit BCL and Rana, a local BCL leader hurled abusive words at me and beat me up," alleged the principal.

Meanwhile, police detained the three accused BCL leaders but they were released later as the victim did not file any written complaint in connection with the incident, said Rakib Hasan, sub-inspector of Chandina Police Station.

Regarding the matter, the principal said that he could not file any written complaint as he was receiving treatment in the hospital.
