Bangladeshi accused in 11 murder cases found dead in Kolkata

Indian police recovered a body of a Bangladeshi man, accused in 11 murder cases in Bangladesh, on Tuesday night from a house in Haridevpur area in Kolkata.

The deceased, Nur-un Latif Nabi alias Maxon, has been identified as a Bangladeshi national from Chattogram, reports our New Delhi correspondent quoting local police.

Police found him in an unconscious state at a house on Motilal Gupta Road under the jurisdiction of Haridevpur Police Station, local police said in a fact-sheet on the incident.

The Daily Star obtained a copy of the fact-sheet.

On reaching the spot, police found a person lying on the floor of the room in an unconscious state. Part of a red scarf was tied around his neck and the rest of the dupatta was hanging from a ceiling fan.

He was immediately moved to MR Bangur Hospital in Tollygunj where he was declared as brought dead by the emergency medical officer of the hospital around 12:06am (local time) on November 30, according to the fact-sheet.

Police said a case was registered against Maxon at Baranagar Police Station on February 4, this year, under section 14 of the Foreigners Act.

Haridevpur police registered an unnatural death case and is conducting the investigation.

On February 7, this year, India's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) had arrested Maxon from near his rented house in Kolkata, after a six-month-long manhunt.

Maxon, who reportedly has 18 criminal cases against him in Bangladesh -- including 11 relating to murder -- went abroad using an Indian passport along with an associate to work as a mason.

According to Bangladesh police, cops had seven arrest warrant against Maxon.

Police had arrested Maxon along with an AK-47 and huge firearms and ammo in 2011.

Later he was awarded 21 years in jail in connection with the arms recovery case. Maxon secured bail and walked out of jail in 2016 and fled abroad.

According to his passport, Maxon changed his identity to Tamal Chowdhury, and he also managed to obtain fake Indian citizenship.
