A Pabna court today (June 27, 2022) sent death row convict Jakaria Pintu, a former local BNP leader, to jail after he was presented before it in a number of cases against him.

Pintu, who has long been absconding until his arrest on Saturday, is a death row fugitive in a case filed over the attack on a train carrying the then opposition leader Sheikh Hasina in 1994 in Pabna.

A team of Rab-2 arrested him from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar on Saturday night.

Pintu was later taken to Pabna District Detective Branch (DB) office, from where he was taken to the Pabna court. The court ordered to send him to jail, Additional Superintendent of Police in Pabna Masud Alam told our Pabna correspondent.

"Pintu is one of the nine death row convicts in the case filed over the attack on Sheikh Hasina in 1994. He is also convicted with 17 years of imprisonment in an arms case in Bheramara, and a warranted accused in total eight other cases," the additional SP said.

"He was presented before the court shown arrested in the cases against him," the police official added.
