The dead is Peyarul Islam, 30, of Kurigram. He was stabbed on Friday and undergoing treatment at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) until he breathed his last.

Shawkat Ali Sarkar, officer-in-charge of Haragach Police Station, said ASI Peyarul, along with a police team, conducted a raid at Shahebganj village to arrest a drug dealer named Polash.

At one point of the raid, Polash managed to break free and stabbed Peyarul in his chest and abdomen, leaving him critically injured, he added.

The ASI underwent surgery but could not survive. He breathed his last at 11:15am yesterday, the OC said.

Police later arrested Polash again. A murder case was filed against him too.
