Mohammad Uzzal, father of the prime accused in college lecturer Utpal Kumar Sarkar killing case, today (July 5, 2022) confessed to a magistrate that his son Ashraful Islam Jitu beat his teacher Utpal to death as he was aggrieved over excessive control from the victim.

After the incident, he had gone to the college compound and asked the authorities not to complain against his son to any law enforcing agencies, court sources said.

Uzzal in his confessional statement said he also told the college authorities that he will look into the matter.

Senior Judicial Magistrate Kazi Ashrafuzzaman recorded Uzzal's statements after investigation officer (IO) Emdadul Haque, sub-inspector of Ashulia Police Station, brought him at the magistrate's chamber.

After recording the statement, the magistrate sent Uzzal to Dhaka Central jail in Keraniganj.

In his statement, Uzzal said he hid his son inside one of his houses in Ahsulia after police started searching for his son to arrest him. Later, he sent his son to Pabna, while he went into hiding to Kushtia to avoid the arrest.

Earlier, Uzzzal was placed on a five-day remand after he was arrested from Kushtia on June 29.

Jitu was also placed on a five-day remand in the case on June 30.

On June 25, Jitu, a 10 grader of Haji Yunus Ali School and College in Ashulia's Chitrasail area, hit Utpal with a cricket stump beside the field around 2pm.

Utpal, also chairman of the disciplinary committee of the institution, was rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital where he died while undergoing treatment.

The following day, Aseem Kumar Sarkar, brother of the deceased, filed a murder case at Ashulia Police Station over the incident accusing the attacker and several unnamed people.
