9 Rohingyas held in Kurigram

Nine Rohingya refugees, who reportedly escaped from their camps in Cox's Bazar, have been detained from Bhurungamari upazila of Kurigram.

They were apprehended by a mobile court near Kachur Mor area of Shilkhuri union, on their way to the border on a three-wheeler, around 8:30pm last night, reports our Lalmonirhat correspondent quoting Bhurungamari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Alamgir Hossain.

The detainees are Faiya Salam, 28, of Kutubkhali-13 Rohingya camp; Ismail Hossain, 19, of Kutub Alam-2 camp; Sabika Khatun, 50, of Kyamra Balukhali-18 camp, and her six children -- Nasim Islam, 15, Riaz Islam 10, Ismail Hossain, 3, Ashmira Khatun, 18, Tasminara Khatun, 7, and Rumazan Khatun, 5.

A mobile court led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) Jahangir Alam, which was operating in the area to enforce lockdown, apprehended the refugees, said the police official.

They Rohingyas were planning to cross the border into India with the help of a local broker. The process of sending the detainees back to their camps is underway, the OC added.
