4 sentenced to death for murdering Kushtia sub-registrar

Four people were sentenced to death, and one to life in prison, for killing Kushtia's sub-registrar Nur Mohhamd (51) in 2018.

The Kushtia court of Tazul Islam, additional district and session judge, delivered the verdict today.

The convicts are Faruk Hossain (38), the office staff of Kushtia Sadar Sub-registrar Office; Saidul Islam (38), a peon of the Mirpur Sub-registry Office; Kamal Sheikh (40) and Mashiul Alam (40).

The court sentenced Monwar Hossain Dablu (38) to life imprisonment and fined him TK 10,000.

The accused were present in the court at the time of the verdict.

According to the prosecution, the deceased knew the killers before joining as a sub-registrar in Kushtia. The five accused decided to kill Nur after animosity grew between them regarding internal dealings.

The killers first strangled and then stabbed Nur Mohammad to death at a rented house in Kushtia on the night of October 8, 2018.

The next day, the younger brother of the deceased, Kamruzzaman, filed a case with the Kushtia Model Police Station, citing anonymity.

After investigating, police submitted a charge sheet against the accused on May 20 last year.
