3 held with 20 gold bars at Benapole checkpost

Customs intelligence officials today arrested three people with 20 gold bars weighing 2,320 grams at Benapole check post.

The officials say the gold were being smuggled to India.

The arrestees are Md Habib, 35, of Faridpur, Mohiuddin,36, and Roni Ahmed, 44, of Gopalganj, our Benapole correspondent reports, quoting Shaikh Arefin Zahedi, deputy director of Benapole Customs Intelligence.

They were arrested this noon based on information that some people were smuggling a large consignment of gold to India through Benapole check post, said Zahedi.

The gold bars were found hidden inside their rectums, he said.

The value of the total gold is about Tk 1.74 crore.

A case has been filed with Benapole Port Police Station, added the customs official.
