Detectives claimed to have arrested three alleged "contract killers" from Chandpur and Dhaka.

They are: Shah Jaman alias Shabu, Saiful Islam alias Sujan, and Dulal Pyada.

The arrestees were engaged in various crimes including contract killing and  extortion in Dhaka's Pallabi, Bhasantek and some other areas, AKM Hafiz Akhtar, additional commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, told a press briefing today.

They used to commit crimes at the behest of two fugitive criminals -- Ibrahim and Zubaraj -- who are now abroad, he said.

DB officials said they came to know about the group while investigating a case filed with Cantonment Police Station after unidentified criminals opened fire at contractor Alab Ali in March this year.

After killing or shooting any target, they used to go into hiding in remote char areas of Padma and Jamuna rivers, they said.

The officials said they first arrested Shabu from Haimchar upazila in Chandpur on Wednesday and later based on his information, they arrested the others from Pallabi area in Dhaka early today.

The law enforcers also claimed to have recovered a pistol, a revolver and 3000 pieces of yaba from their possession.
