26-year-old's body recovered from canal in Savar

A 26-year-old man's body was recovered from a canal at Jahangirnagar Society area in Savar today (August 12, 2022).

Police are interrogating two of the deceased's friends in connection with the death, however, their identities were not disclosed, reports our local correspondent quoting Sajal Khan, sub-inspector of Savar Model Police Station

The deceased was identified as Mamunur Rahman Pappu (26) of Daulatpur in Manikganj district. Pappu, a shopkeeper by profession, used to live at Jahangirnagar Society area with his family members.

Locals recovered the body from the canal at 1pm and informed police, said the SI.

Quoting the deceased's family members and locals, SI Sajal said Pappu left home at around 9:00 am yesterday (August 11, 2022) and did not return at night.

As he was not found anywhere, his (Pappu's) family members and locals interrogated some youths who used to roam with him.

During interrogation, two friends told that Pappu went missing after jumping into the canal yesterday morning and they did not disclose the matter out of fear. 

Based on their information, locals recovered Pappu's body from the canal and informed police.

The body was sent to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital for an autopsy, the SI said, adding that they are interrogating the two friends to know the actual reason for his death.
