2 arrested over gang-rape of woman in Gazipur 

A case has been registered against three persons in connection with the gang-rape of a woman in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila.

The victim filed the case today with Sreepur Police Station naming Golap Miah (33), Kamruzzaman (40) and another unidentified man, reports our Gazipur correspondent quoting Khandakar Imam Hossain, officer-in-charge of Sreepur Police Station.

Police have detained the two accused and shown them arrested after the case was filed in this connection, the OC said.

According to the case statement, the victim and her friends were visiting Beldia village of the upazila yesterday.

At night, when they were returning home, the accused intercepted their CNG-run auto rickshaw at Boldighat area and forcefully took the woman to an under-construction building and raped her there, said the statement.

Locals rescued the woman after hearing her screams, but the alleged rapists managed to flee, reads the statement.

On information, police conducted a drive the same night and detained the two accused and shown them arrested after the case was filed today, informed the OC.

The victim was sent to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Medical College Hospital for tests, he added.
