2 arrested in Noakhali over rape of teenager

Police today arrested two people from Noakhali's Sonaimuri municipality in a case filed over the rape of a teenager.

The arrestees are Shariful Islam and his associate Din Mohammad, reports our correspondent quoting police.

Quoting the case statement, Sonaimuri Police Inspector Jisan Ahmed said that Shariful Islam knew the teenage victim. Yesterday, he took the girl to a hotel room where he raped her. Din Mohammad, the hotel manager, assisted Shariful in booking the hotel room.

The girl was rescued by police in an unconscious state from the hotel room around 9pm yesterday, said the inspector, adding that the girl was later taken to Noakhali General Hospital.

The girl's family members went to Sonaimuri Police Station last night and filed a case after learning of the incident, said Sonaimuri Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mohammad Gias Uddin, adding that police have arrested the two accused this morning.
