15 injured as locals, law enforcement personnel clash in Barishal

At least 15 people including police and Ansar members were injured in a clash that took place last night in front of the Barishal Sadar upazila parishad office.

The identities of the injured could not be known when this report was filed around 1:45am today, Mohammad Enamul Haque, additional superintendent of police of Barishal Metropolitan Police, told our Barishal correspondent.

The reason behind the clash and the identities of the groups that clashed with law enforcement officials could not be known immediately.

Quoting Md Munibur Rahman, Barishal Sadar upazila nirbahi officer, Enamul said a clash ensued between Ansar members of the upazila parishad office and a group that was removing National Mourning Day banners from the gates around 10:30pm.

At one stage, the Ansar members were forced to fire shots in the air to disperse them, he said, adding that 15 persons including police and Ansar members were injured during the clash.

The injured were taken to Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital.

Additional police forces were deployed in the area to avert any untoward incident, added the police official.
