1 held for killing in-charge of drug rehabilitation centre in Gopalganj

Police have detained a drug abuser who allegedly killed the acting in-charge of a drug rehabilitation centre at Kotalipara upazila in Gopalganj yesterday.

The detainee is Kinkor Baroi (23) is from Madaripur, reports our Gopalganj correspondent quoting Md Zillur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Kotalipara Police Station.

The deceased, Paul Gomez (42) of Savar upazila in Dhaka, was the acting in-charge of BYFC (Bangladesh Youth First Concern) Drug Rehabilitation Centre located at Dakshin Devgram in Kotalipara upazila, said the OC.

According to police sources, the accused Kinkor Baroi indiscriminately stabbed Paul around 7:30 am yesterday when he was preparing to take breakfast at the rehabilitation centre.

Paul was rushed to Kotalipara Upazila Health Complex where on-duty doctor declared him dead, said police.

Police and officials of the rehabilitation centre said Paul prohibited Kinkor from smoking cigarettes.

The accused might have killed him centring the matter, police suspected.

The body was sent to Gopalganj General Hospital for an autopsy, the OC said, adding that a case is underway in this connection.
