Worker dies in Mongla port after falling into Pashur river

A worker died after falling into the Pashur river while working in a dredger in Khulna's Mongla port.

The deceased worker was identified as Naim Dewan (28) from Munshiganj.

The incident happened at Pashur river adjacent to jetty no. 7 at Mongla port yesterday evening, UNB's Khulna correspondent reports.

At 9:30pm, fire service personnel recovered the body of Naim from the river.

Confirming the incident, Md Ardesh Ali, a senior fire station official at Mongla EPZ Fire Service and Civil Defence, said, "Naim used to work in 'CSD Bukhari' dredger of AZ company in Mongla port's jetty. He accidentally fell into the river while cleaning the fan of the dredger."

Mohammad Monirul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mongla Police Station, said police were sent to the spot after hearing about the death.
