Woman killed in Gazipur road accident

A woman was crushed under the wheels of a covered-van on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway in Gazipur's Sreepur upazila today.

The deceased was identified as Rupjan Begum, wife of Abul Hossain of from Mawna union of Sreepur upazila, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting police.

Abul Hossain was also injured in the accident and was rushed to a local hospital, said Kamal Hossain, officer-in-charge (OC) of Mawna Highway Police Station.

Quoting locals and eyewitnesses, the OC said the accident occurred around 11:00am when the couple was crossing the highway.

Rupjan Begum died on the spot, the OC said, adding that her body was handed over to her relatives without autopsy, the OC said.

The covered-van driver fled the scene along with the vehicles soon after the accident, he added.
