Will take steps to rehabilitate traders after investigation: state minister

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md Enamur Rahman said they would take steps after investigation to rehabilitate traders of Bangabazar shops that burnt to ashes in a devastating fire today.

"Each of the injured will get Tk 15,000 for now," he said after visiting the site this afternoon.

No deaths were reported in the fire that tore through the iconic market and was brought under control after more than six hours.

Enamur said he went to the site after being instructed by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Meanwhile, visiting the area, Dhaka South City Corporation Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh said he was worried because of repeated fires at the market.

He said the DSCC authorities sent at least 10 letters to the market authorities to relocate elsewhere it but they could not take steps as there was a stay order from the High Court.

Both the state minister and mayor estimated that around 5,000 traders were affected by the fire.
