Snake bite kills man in illegal snake farm

A man died after being bitten by a snake at an illegal snake farm in Patuakhali Sadar upazila Friday night.

Jabbar Talukder, 27, of Hartukibaria village in the upazila, breathed his last at Patuakhali Medical College Hospital.

He used to work at Razzak Biswas Snake Farm at Nandipara village in the same upazila, said locals.

Jabbar was bitten by a snake around 10:00am when he was feeding a venomous snake. He was taken to the hospital around 5:00pm.

Contacted, Razzak Biswas, proprietor of the farm, said there were at least 300 venomous snakes in his collection.

"The death of Jabbar is an accident," he said.

Razzak further said that his sibling was killed a few years back the same way at this farm.

About the farm's legality, he said it was about to get permission from the concerned government department as the paperwork was already done.

Moniruzzaman, officer-in-charge of Patuakhali Police Station, said the body was sent to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

An unnatural death case was filed and further legal actions would be taken in this regard, he added.
