Police constable dies as pick-up van hits motorcycle in Jatrabari

A police constable died after a pick-up van hit his motorcycle in Dhaka's Jatrabari area last night (June 28, 2022).

The deceased was identified as Sohag Islam, a constable of transport division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

Abdul Khaleque, a sub-inspector of Jatrabari Police Station, said Sohag was a driver of assistant commissioner (petrol) of Tejgaon division.

The accident took place at Dhalpur area around 8:30pm as he was returning to his Jatrabari residence on his bike after his duty.With severe head injuries, he was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead around 10:30pm, he said.

Police are trying to identify the pick-up van. The body was sent to hospital morgue for autopsy.

Hailing from Gazipur's Kapashia upazila, Sohag left behind a wife and a child.
