Panchagarh boat capsize: Bidyanondo provides Tk 15 lakh to 9 families

Bidyanondo Foundation has provided financial assistance of Tk 15 lakh to nine families who lost their sole earning member in the boat capsize in Karatoa river in Panchagarh on September 25.

Of these families, one family received Tk 3 lakh, four families received Tk 2 lakh, and four others received Tk 1 lakh each, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.

Panchagarh Deputy Commissioner Md Jahurul Islam handed over the assistance at the conference room of his office today (October 3, 2022).

He expressed his gratitude to the voluntary organisation and hoped that more organisations like this would come forward to rehabilitate the distressed families.

On September 25, a boat carrying more than a hundred passengers capsized in the Karatoa river at Awalia Ghat in Madea union of Boda upazila while it was on its way to attend a religious ceremony organised on the occasion of Mahalaya at Badeshwari Temple in Barashashi union.

As a result, 69 people died and three are still missing.
