One killed, 11 injured as cement mixer hits minibus in Munshiganj

A woman was killed and 11 people were injured after a minibus carrying them was hit by a cement mixer on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway, in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj, this afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Jinnahar Begum (35), daughter of Md Abdullah of Sutubpur village under Jamalganj upazila of Sunamganj district,  said Md Shah Jalal Babul, officer-in-charge of Bhaberchar Highway Police.

She worked at a local factory in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj, the OC told our Munshiganj correspondent.

OC Babul said when the vehicle hit the minibus in Baktarkandi area around 2 pm, both plunged into a ditch beside the highway.

The minibus with passengers fell into the ditch first and then the cement mixer fell on it -- leaving bus passenger Jinnahar dead on the spot and 11 others injured, he said.

Md Anwar Hossain, an official of Gazaria Fire Service Station said on information, they recovered the body of a woman from the spot and also rescued eight women and three men, who were sent to Gazaria Upazila Health Complex.
