One dead, 20 injured as a truck hits 15 vehicles in Munshiganj

A woman was killed and 20 others were injured when a truck hit 15 vehicles after the driver lost control of the wheels in Munshiganj today.

The deceased was identified as Runa Akhter (35), a resident of Mirpur-1 area in Dhaka.

The accident happened when driver of the truck, carrying government fertiliser, lost control of the wheels at Muktarpur under Munshiganj Sadar upazila around 1:00pm, said Mohammad Bazlur Rahman, Traffic Police Inspector (Administration) of Munshiganj Sadar.

The truck moved forward over a bridge and hit around 15 vehicles, including eight CNG-run auto-rickshaws, on about 1.5km, the inspector said.

All the vehicles were damaged during the incident, he added.

Runa, who was a passenger of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, died on the way to a hospital. She, along with her daughters Tayeba Nusrat (18), Ayra (9) and son Md Tamim (18), was coming to Dhaka from Munshiganj Sadar.

Nusrat, Ayra, and Tamim also sustained injuries, our Munshiganj correspondent reports.

Truck driver Md Rubel, who was also injured during the accident, was taken to Munshiganj General Hospital but was later shifted to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.

The truck was seized and vehicular movement was halted temporarily on the road.

Munshiganj General Hospital's emergency department doctor Md Sohag said, "Fourteen people have been undergoing treatment at Munshiganj General Hospital. Two others have been sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital."
