After colliding with a sunken ship in the Mongla Port channel today, a vessel carrying furnace oil named "MT Monowara" was damaged.

The vessel's water tank burst due to the collision, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting Mongla Port authority.

Meanwhile, a Coast Guard ship -- "Shaheed Mansur Ali" -- has rescued the crew of the vessel. The Oil Spill Response Vessel of the Mongla Port authority also went to the scene.

The vessel was carrying 1,500 metric tons of furnace oil. The vessel, owned by Chattogram's Abul Kalam Oil Supply Limited, was transporting oil to Khulna's Daulatpur Jamuna Oil Depot. At 10 am yesterday, the ship departed Chattogram for Daulatpur in Khulna.

"The accident happened because there was no marking of the sunken ship," said owner of the vessel Abul Kalam.

A part of an oil tank was damaged when it hit the sunken ship, according to Mongla Port Authority Commander Sheikh Fakhar Uddin. The owner has been contacted, and they will send an empty ship, remove oil, and safely transport the ship. However, the official said that traffic at the Mongla Port is normal.
