The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.

Fire Service personnel rescued six people from the building. None of them were injured.

However, two firefighters and one volunteer were injured due to the smoke and heat.

The building houses offices and shops till the fifth floor, and residential apartments for the remaining four.

Sirajul Islam, an employee of a ceramic shop on the ground floor, said they smelled something burning and started looking at different floors and saw flames at a computer shop on the fourth floor.

"We tried to douse the fire using the extinguishers but the blaze started spreading. We then informed Fire Service," he said.
