Fire from charger fan: 5 of a family burnt in Narayanganj

Five members of a family, including a seven-year-old, sustained burn injuries in a fire in Narayanganj Sadar upazila this morning.

The fire originated from a charger fan in their house in Fatullah area, reports our correspondent quoting Md Mohsin, inspector (investigation) of Fatullah Police Station.

The victims Salam Mondal, 55, Bulbuli Begum, 40, Sonia Akter, 30, Md Tutul, 25, and Mehjabin, 7, were sleeping in the same room where the blaze started, he said.

"The family fell asleep at night with the fan plugged in for charging," the inspector said, adding that at one stage the fan caught fire, and the flames spread to the bed.

The injured were admitted to Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 9:30am.

Salam sustained 70 percent burns, Bulbul 25 percent, Sonia 42 percent, Tutul 60 percent, and Mehjabin 35 percent, said Tariqul Islam, resident surgeon of the hospital.
