9 killed in three-way collision: Bus driver arrested

Bhatiapara Highway Police today arrested a driver of Rajib Paribahan on charges of killing nine people and injuring 25 others in a road accident on Saturday.

The arrestee, Sankar Das, 45, of Pirojpur, was arrested while he was undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College for the injuries he sustained from the accident, reports our Faridpur correspondent quoting Md Sirajul Islam, in-charge of Bhatiapara Highway Police.

Hamid Uddin Ahamed, OC of Bhanga Highway Police Station, said, "The accident, among the bus, a private car and a motorcycle, occurred on the Dhaka-Khulna highway near Milton Bazar area in Kashiaganj upazila. Sankar broke his leg in the accident… Once he recovers, further legal action will be taken."

After the accident, Goutam Kumar, assistant traffic sub-inspector of Bhatiapara Highway police, filed a case in this regard with Kashiani Police Station on Sunday.

Three couples, including two farm workers, were among the nine killed.
