3 dead in Dinajpur road accident

Three people died as a pickup van collided with a bus in Phulbari upazila of Dinajpur early today.

The deceased were identified as pickup van driver Oli Ullah, 23, and its helper Md Nishan Islam, 25, and passenger Motassim Billah, 33.

Ashraful Islam, officer-in-charge of Phulbari Police Station, said a Rajshahi-bound pickup van from Phulbari collided with a Dinajpur-bound bus at Bhimalpur village on Dinajpur-Gobindaganj regional road around 4am.

Oli and Nishan, residents of Dinajpur, and Billah from Chapainawabganj died on the spot, our Dinajpur correspondent reports quoting the OC.

On information, members of local Fire Service and Civil Defence recovered the bodies.

Police could not arrest the bus driver as he went into hiding soon after the accident, the OC said.
