22-year-old drowns in Brahmaputra River

A 22-year-old youth drowned in Brahmaputra River in Jamalpur this (October 5, 2022) evening.

The deceased was identified as Md Akash of Bogali village in Jamalpur Sadar upazila, reports our Jamalpur correspondent quoting Jamalpur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Shahnewaz

Rabiul Islam Akanda, senior station officer of Jamalpur Fire Service, told this correspondent that the youth fell into the Brahmaputra River in the Ferryghat area of the district while he along with other friends was watching the immersion of the idols in the river.

Later, divers of the fire service recovered his body around 8pm, the official added.

The deceased's father Sojaur said his son went to see the immersion of idols with friends.

"At 10 pm, I came to know that he drowned after he fell into the water during the Durga idol immersion when he was in a boat with his friends," said Sojaur.
