2,000 homes burnt in fire at Cox's Bazar Rohingya camps

Nearly 2,000 shelters were gutted in a massive fire at Rohingya camps in Cox's Bazar's Ukhiya upazila this afternoon.

Additional Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner Mohammad Shamsuddoza Noyon confirmed it to our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent.

The fire originated at block-B of Balukhali refugee camp-11 under Palongkhali union around 2:45pm and soon spread to adjacent camp-10 and 9.

Ten firefighting units brought the blaze under control around 5:10pm, said Fire Service sources.

Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station, said police arrested a youth for his alleged involvement in the incident and were now interrogating him.
