2 die as private car falls from under-construction bridge in Munshiganj

Two youths died and another suffered injuries after their private car fell from an under-construction bridge in Tongibari upazila of Munshiganj early today.

The deceased were identified as Fahim Hossain (18) and Jisan Hossain (19) while the injured as Zahid Hossain (16) of Minshiganj Sadar upazila, our local correspondent reports quoting Tongibari Police Station's Officer-in-Charge Mollah Soheb Ali.

The three friends went for a hangout but the car fell into the canal from an under-construction bridge in Pura Bazar area at 3:30am as they could not see the bypass road, said the OC.

Informed, a police patrol team rescued the three and took them to Munshiganj General Hospital where two were declared dead, the OC said, adding that the car fell from about 15-20 feet height.

Tofazzal Hossain, a doctor at the emergency department of the hospital, confirmed that two youths were brought dead at 4:30am and another was injured.

Injured Zahid went home after taking treatment at the hospital.

Fahim was a student of class 10 at Munshiganj High School and Jisan was preparing to go abroad after passing SSC.

Jisan went out with the car of his brother-in-law Md Likhan Hossain, who was not at home at the time, said the OC.

Confirming the incident, Additional Superintendent of Police Sumon Dev said details would be revealed after the autopsy.

Jisan's sister Rupa Akhter said the accident occurred as there were no directions or signboard around the under construction bridge.
