2 siblings drown in Bandarban stream, mother missing

Two siblings drowned, and their mother went missing in a stream while bathing during a heavy downpour in Bandarban last evening.

The deceased are Bajerung Tripura (13) and her brother Pradeep Tripura, reports our Bandarban correspondent.

Bajerung, Pradeep, and their mother Kishnati Tripura (40) were swept away by strong currents when they went to bathe in the stream, locally known as Jhiri, said Nazmul Alam, station officer of Bandarban fire service and civil defence unit.

Firefighters rescued bodies of Bajerung and Pradeep from Jhiri between 7 am and 12 pm this morning, said Nazmul adding, "We are trying to rescue the missing women."

Digendra Tripura, a resident of Saingya Tripura para, said, "There was a strong current in the Jhiri due to heavy rains yesterday. There also were incidents of landslide."
