Five people were killed and one other injured after a bus rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw at Sherpur upazila of Bogura today.

The identities of the deceased could not be known immediately but all were passengers of the auto-rickshaw and its driver, reports our Bogura correspondent quoting AKM Baniul Anam, inspector of Sherpur Highway Police.

"The accident happened at Mirzapur on the Bogura-Rangpur highway around 5:00 pm after a Bogura-bound bus of Hanif Paribahan from Dhaka hit the auto-rickshaw leaving four auto-rickshaw passengers and its driver dead on the spot and one passenger injured," said the inspector.

Nadir Hossain, the warehouse inspector of the Sherpur Fire Service, said among the five deceased one was a woman.

Police recovered the bodies and sent those to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, for autopsies, he said.

The injured passenger was taken by locals to the same hospital, Nadir Hossain added.

The bus driver and the helper managed to flee the scene after the accident, said police.
