2 children drown in Patuakhali

Two children have drowned in separate incidents by falling into ponds at Kalapara upazila in Patuakhali.

The deceased were identified as Saiba (6), daughter of Md Obaidul Hasan of Kalapara upazila's Barabaliatli village, and Tanha (2), daughter of Md Tanjil Miah, our Patuakhali correspondent reports quoting Kalapara Police Station Officer-in-Charge Mohammad Jasim.

Saiba fell into a pond near her house today while playing around 10:30am.

Family members rescued her and rushed her to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor pronounced her dead on arrival, the OC said.

Meanwhile, Tanha drowned last night after falling into a pond.

Later, her mother rescued her from the pond and while taking her to Kalapara Upazila Health Complex, Tanha died on the way, the OC said.

Two death cases have been filed, the OC added.
