1 killed as electric pole crashes thru bus windshield in Faridpur

A passenger was killed after an electric pole crashed through a moving bus while it was being loaded into a truck in Faridpur Sadar upazila this afternoon (September 23, 2022).

The deceased was identified as Nazrul Islam, 38, a resident of Kumarbhog area of Louhajang upazila of Munshiganj, reports our Faridpur correspondent.

The incident took place on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in East Gangabardi area under Kaijuri union, said Kankar Kumar Biswas, officer-in-charge (OC) of Karimpur Highway Police Station in Faridpur.

OC Kankar said some electric poles were being loaded into a truck in East Gangabardi area while a bus of Talukdar Paribahan from Sayedabad to Kushtia was passing by the area. At that time, an electric pole crashed through the windshield of the bus.

At the same time, a Dhaka-bound JR Paribahan bus from Darshana plunged into a roadside ditch after being hit by the same electric pole.

Eleven passengers of the two buses were injured, including Nazrul, said the OC.

Highway police rescued the injured people and admitted them to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital in Faridpur where Nazrul died while undergoing treatment around 1:30pm.

He was a passenger of Talukdar Paribahan, added the police official.
