3 killed as truck hits rickshaw in Lalmonirhat

A truck rammed into a battery-powered rickshaw killing three persons at T and T intersection in the district town around 9:45pm yesterday.

In an attempt to escape, the driver rammed into another rickshaw about 200 metres away injuring three others.

Jahangir Hossain, 36, and Motaleb Hossain, 38, were assistants at Lalmonirhat District Land Registry office while Dulal Hossain, 42, was the rickshaw puller. They were killed at the scene.

As the truck went on after hitting the second rickshaw, police chased and caught it around five kilometres away in Mahendranagar area, said Mahfuz Alam, officer-in-charge of Lalmonirhat Police Station.

The driver managed to flee, he added.
