Modi congratulates Shehbaz Sharif on becoming Pakistan PM

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi last night congratulated new Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif soon after the latter was sworn in and said India desired peace and stability in a region free of terrorism.

Taking to the Twitter, Modi said "Congratulations to H. E. Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on his election as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. India desires peace and stability in a region free of terror, so that we can focus on our development challenges and ensure the well-being and prosperity of our people," reports our New Delhi correspondent.

Earlier in the evening, Shehbaz Sharif was administered the oath by Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjarani.
