Rohingya woman arrested at India-Nepal border

Indian security forces apprehended a Rohingya woman for illegally staying in the country, officials said today.

The woman, identified as Rashida Begum (37), was nabbed during the checking of a bus on the India-Nepal border in Sonauli on Wednesday, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

Officials of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), which guards the border with Nepal, said Rashida, along with her husband and five children, had reached Manipur through Bangladesh a few years ago and made her base in Delhi.

The woman had recently moved to Jammu and Kashmir, they said.

She told Indian immigration officers that she had gone to Nepal through Sitamarhi in Bihar state two months ago in search of her missing son.

Rashida was on her way to India from Nepal when she was arrested last evening by immigration department in the Sonauli area after her documents were found to be fake, said SHO Manoj Kumar Rai.

A case has been registered against her for illegally entering India and getting a fake Indian identity card.
