Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been asked to vacate his official bungalow by April 22, four days after he was disqualified as a Lok Sabha member following his conviction in a criminal defamation case.

According to the rule, a disqualified parliamentarian isn't entitled to a government accommodation and is given 30 days to vacate it.

The notice asking Rahul Gandhi to vacate the official bungalow at 12, Tughlaq Road in the hear of Delhi was served by Housing Committee of Lok Sabha, reports our New Delhi correspondent quoting Indian parliament sources.

Rahul has been staying at the Tughlaq Road bungalow since it was allotted to him following his victory in 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh state.

Rahul Gandhi was convicted by a court in Surat and sentenced to a two-year jail term in a four-year-old defamation case for his reported "why all thieves have Modi surname" remark during electioneering in the southern state of Karnataka in 2019.

The court has suspended Rahul's sentence for 30 days so that he can move a higher court with an appeal.
