Attacks on Hindus ‘conspiracy’ to damage India-Bangladesh relations: Tripura CM

Chief Minister of India's Tripura state, Biplab Kumar Deb, today expressed concern over attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh and said he felt these are part of a "conspiracy" to damage India-Bangladesh relations.

In Agartala, he told reporters, "India-Bangladesh friendship is no less than an example to the world. These things are being done as part of a conspiracy to damage that. We severely condemn these incidents. We are confident that Bangladesh administration will take strict action on these incidents."

Terming the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh "painful" and "shameful", the CM said fundamentalist forces hatched a conspiracy to attack cultural and religious institutions during Durga Puja and after it, our New Delhi correspondent reports.

Deb said, "Earlier too, some conspirators had wanted to damage the (India-Bangladesh) relations. Those people are doing these things. But the common people of Bangladesh are not like this. Bangladesh PM has a good relation with us. I'm sure Bangladesh administration will take all necessary steps."

Civil societies of Tripura have met Bangladesh Assistant High Commissioner in Agartala, Zobayed Hosen, and sought strict action on perpetrators of violence on minorities in Bangladesh.
