A year since the loss of an ICON

One year ago today, the world lost Razzak, arguably the biggest icon of Bangladeshi film. To this day, he is fondly addressed as 'Nayak Raj,' as his contribution to Bangla cinema is tremendous. In a career that spanned over five decades, Razzak won the hearts of millions and was widely recognised as one of the finest actors that the industry ever had. Since his first big break in Zahir Raihan's Behula in 1966, the film that made him a household name, Razzak went on to act in leading roles in many popular as well as critically acclaimed films such as Jibon Theke Neya, Maynamati, Obujh Mon, Rongbaj, Neel Akasher Niche, Chhutir Ghonta and Beimaan to name a few. Razzak made laudable and gorgeous screen pairs with leading ladies like Kabori, Babita, Shabana, Rozina and many others.

He also became the first action hero of the nation with Zahirul Haq's Rongbaj. Be it romantic, action or social drama films, Razzak captivated his audience with his mold-breaking roles. He was a director and producer as well. The last film he acted in was Kartooz, directed by his son Bapparaj. Razzak's last film as a director was Ayna Kahini.

To commemorate his first death anniversary, his family members will offer prayers at his grave. Many discussion sessions and programmes will also be hosted by the film fraternity in honor of the Nayak Raj after Eid.
