Drik holds 'A Struggle for Democracy- A photo journey by Shahidul Alam'

Rarely does an exhibition begin with people singing, but the photographic exhibition titled 'A Struggle for Democracy- A photo journey by Shahidul Alam' at Drik gallery began with a spontaneous performance by singers Krishnakali, Bithi and Nila and the audience expressing their solidarity for the artist who is currently behind bars. The exhibition was arranged to protest against Shahidul Alam's imprisonment and to commemorate Drik's founding.

Teacher and activist, Professor Anu Muhammad, human rights activist Khushi Kabir, and Professor Meghna Guhathakurta inaugurated the event. Junayed Saki, Shahidul Alam's partner, writer, and columnist Rahnuma Ahmed, Barrister Jotirmoy Barua were also present.

Rahnuma Ahmed said it is the love from people that boosts her strength and confidence.

Professor Anu Muhammad said, “This exhibition is a description of his 'faults.' He is a person always vocal about repression and discrimination.”

Barrister Jotirmoy Barua talked about fighting till the end for the freedom of Shahidul Alam.

The exhibition is open for all till September 10, 2018, every day from 3-8pm.
