AL nominations disappoint party men in three constituencies

The recent announcement of Awami League nominations has left the party men angry in three parliamentary constituencies of Gaibandha and Mymensingh.
AL leaders and activists of 13 unions in Gaibandha-2 constituency yesterday held a meeting on the local Shaheed Miner premise, demanding cancellation of nomination of incumbent lawmaker Mahbub Ara Begum Gini, reports our correspondent.
The urged the party chief to nominate a competent candidate in the constituency to contest the upcoming parliamentary election. As Mahbub Ara Begum Gini has lost her popularity in the area, she will not be able to retain the seat, they said.
They also declared Gini 'unwanted' in the constituency and threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme if the nomination was not cancelled immediately.
Presided over by Ranajit Bakshi Suryo, president of Gaibandha Sader upazila unit of AL, the rally was addressed, among others, by Shah Sarwar Kabir, Abdur Rashid, Faruk Ahmed, Shahidul Islam, and Masud Ahmed.
On the other hand, the supporters of lawmaker Gini brought out procession in the town yesterday and sought vote for her.
In Gaibandha-4, Gobindaganj upazila AL leaders and activists yesterday demanded cancellation of nomination of incumbent lawmaker Monower Hossain Chowdhury.
Addressing a press conference at Gobindaganj AL office, they urged the party chief to give nomination to upazila parishad chairman Abul Kalam Azad, replacing Monowar Hossain.
Our Mymensingh correspondent reported that the activists of a faction of Gouripur upazila unit of Awami League yesterday demanded cancellation of nomination of incumbent lawmaker Captain (retd) Mujibur Rahman Fakir, also ex-state minister for health and family welfare, to contest the 10th parliamentary elections from Mymensingh-3 constituency (Gouripur).
Addressing a press conference at Mymensingh Press Club, the angry AL men alleged that Mujibur Rahman Fakir did not give importance to local party men in taking decisions about development works and misbehaved with them during his last five years' tenure.
They requested the party chief to field another candidate in the constituency to retain the parliamentary seat. The AL men announced that they would form human chains in 11 unions of the upazila to press their demand.
Our Dinajpur correspondent adds: Three AL candidates yesterday submitted their nomination papers to assistant returning officers in their respective areas, .
Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury (Dinajpur-2) submitted his nomination paper to Bochaganj upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) at around 12:30pm.
Mostafizur Rahman (Dinajpur-5) filed his nomination paper with Phulbari UNO at around 2:00pm and AH Mahmud Ali (Dinajpur-4) submitted his nomination paper to Chirirbandar UNO in the afternoon.
